Most Efficient Way To Clean Your Bathrooms

Okay, so lets be honest cleaning the bathrooms in our home is never really fun is it? It's a love hate thing for me. I love walking into a clean restroom, but it's the actual task you don't look forward to doing. After moving into our new home which includes three restrooms, I decided that I needed a plan and new way of tackling the restroom chore. I love planning and organizing my life with a schedule. It's a must as a homeschool/stay at home mom. So, I knew I had to add this to my routine so that I can keep track of it, before it get's out of hand.

How I figured it out?

I follow cleanmama.com and decided to use this printable to help me get on a schedule for cleaning the house. The calendar says to clean restrooms on Monday. I like that, because it gets the week started strong and it helps me feel accomplished to complete this task early on. I don't follow the calendar 100%, because I've molded it into my own. However, I do like cleaning the bathrooms on Mondays and the perspective is has given me.

Like I said, I run better on a schedule where I can literally read off my tasks for the day or week. This helps me make sure I actually clean the restrooms weekly. Opposed to me forgetting the last time I cleaned the restrooms and allowing more time to pass leading to a bigger mess build up. However, I do try my best to maintain them daily.

I have figured out the most efficient way for me to actually physically clean my bathrooms. And it may seem like common sense to just dive in and clean something, but a technique allows me to approach this task with confidence.

So this is how I do it!

How I Get It Done?

  1. The first thing I do is squirt toilet bowl cleaner around the inside rim of the toilet seat as well as down into the bottom. I like to let it sit for a few minutes to help it disinfect. So, I let it sit while I move on to step number two.
  2. Spray disinfectant bathroom cleaner all over the remaining parts of the toilet. The lid, rim, under, over, seat cover. I let that sit (again for the disinfecting boost) and move on to step number three.
  3. Spray disinfectant cleaner all over tub or shower stall. (We have bidets in our restrooms, so I spray those as well.) I then also spray the sink all over.
  4. Then I spray the restroom mirror with glass cleaner.
  5. Now I begin working backwards. I wipe down and clean the mirror, scrub and wash the entire sink area, scrub the showers and tubs, and lastly wipe down around the toilet and scrub the bowl down with a toilet cleaner scrub then flush. Wallah done! Now repeat for the other two restrooms.

Did you see what I did? I began with spraying down the most germy tougher to clean parts of the restroom to the least and easiest, so that the cleaning spray can sit and disinfect while I get the other tasks done. By the time I get back to the toilets they have been sitting with the product long enough (5-10 minutes recommended).

It may seem like a lot of work, but the key to making the process quicker is making sure you don't go too long in between bathroom cleanings. Because I clean the restrooms weekly and maintain daily theres not so much to deep clean. So, I can quickly move through with cleaning the shower for example because not a whole lot of soap scum has build up. This helps me be able to achieve the tasks instead of pushing it aside.

Products I use

I always make sure to use clean safer environmentally friendly products in my home. I have tried most brands and I will list below some of my favorites.

  • Mrs Meyers cleaning products are my top favorite natural cleaning products.
  • I like to use this multi-surface concentrate cleaner. I use it to refill my all purpose cleaner and to wash my floors.
  • I like to use this Method toilet bowl cleaner, but I prefer to order it at Grove Collaborative because it is much cheaper!!

I'm very interested to know how others take on cleaning their restrooms? I don't ever have these conversations with people, so maybe I can learn a thing or two. Let me know in the comments section. I hope you enjoyed reading this post. Any other questions or comments? Please don't hesitate to post them below. Thank you for reading!

Love love love this! Life with two littles now is a bit more busy! So keeping up with daily chores has been the challenge. This is amazing!! Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks and even what you use! I’m excited to try the lemon verbena multi surface cleaner! I have been looking for something new and efficient to use on my floors! So thank you!! 🙂
I pretty much start the same way as you!! I begin with the toilet bowl and let that sit, then the sink and scrub it down, and lastly the tub and scrub it down, rinse it and then scrub the toilet bowl and lastly tie up the bag in the waste basket and throw that out. I also do it once a week and try my best to maintain it daily. Also, after each shower I always rinse out the tub with the shower head (ours detaches like a hose) and rinse the tub so it’s always clean. I also try my best to throw out the trash daily or ever other day so we always have a clean waste basket if that makes sense. Especially with diapers going in there!! 🙂
