Homemade Organic Frozen Yogurt Tubes
S0, one day on our regular market trip we were in the dairy section picking out yogurt. Plain Organic Whole milk greek yogurt as usual. Jane was standing next to us as we were deciding which brand. Her eyes began wandering off noticing the colorful yogurts with cartoon characters. She said "mommy I want that one!". She was pointing at the frozen yogurt tubes that were filled with sugar. I explained to her why those weren't a good option, then I told her that we can try making our own "strawberry yogurt", being that is her favorite flavor. She became very excited as she loves "cooking" new things.
Later that day I was searching for yogurt tube containers and surprisingly ended up coming across Zipzicle on Amazon. So I ordered a couple packs of those. I usually try to avoid plastic at all costs, but these were BPA free, and although they are said to be reusable I toss them after every use, just to be sure. I then showed Jane what I had found and told her they would be coming in the mail soon, then we can make our own yogurt. She kept on asking if they were going to be delivered that day! So you could imagine how happy she was when they finally did arrive a week later.
Let me jump ahead and show you the recipe we used.
1 Cup fresh or frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries, mangoes, raspberries etc.)
1 Cup whole milk yogurt
1 TBSP of Honey for some added sweetness
You can also add some extra probiotics powder.
Blend all ingredients in blender till smooth.
Pour yogurt blend in tubes, use a funnel if necessary.
And that's it! Just pop into the freezer.
You can mix and match, and add less or more of the ingredients to your liking. Get creative!
These yogurts are great for on the go snacks, and also lunch box snacks for older children.
Jane goes back and forth between preferring her yogurt frozen or just soft and fresh, so I usually keep a couple refrigerated and freeze the rest. She loves that the yogurt tubes are different pretty colors. Especially pink (strawberry), her favorite color.
Moments like those when Jane is happily enjoying her yogurt, running to Daddy to show off what she helped create, are some of the moments that make me the happiest. Knowing my daughter is enjoying 'fun food', without the added chemicals, preservatives, and food coloring. Just real, healthy ingredients that we made together while bonding. Its more than just healthy frozen yogurt, its love.
