Let's take it back old school with this delicious LAUSD coffee cake recipe!
A LA city school favorite.
If you went to school in Los Angeles then you know what I'm talking about.
This coffee cake is very easy to make so you can feel confident about bringing this old school recipe into your kitchen!

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 Cups All-purpose flour
- 1 Cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 Cup + 1 TBSP sugar
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 1 Tsp Nutmeg
- 3/4 Cup Canola or Avocado Oil
- 1 Tsp Cinnamon
- 1 Tsp Baking Soda
- 1 Tsp Baking Powder
- 1 Egg
- 1 Cup Buttermilk

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Combine the first six ingredients until crumbly. Remove 1/2 cup of that mixture and to it add the cinnamon.
- Combine the last four ingredients then add them to the first mixture and blend together but do not over mix.
- Pour in a greased 9x13 inch cake pan. Sprinkle the cinnamon crumbly mixture over the top of the batter. Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
Wow! The flavor is just like old times. My elementary school days were not the best years, but I really looked forward to breakfast and recess when they served this awesome coffee cake,

I remember this coffee cake. I went to Van Nuys High School. We had a brake after 2nd period called "nutrition". No, this cake was not nutritious, but so yummy. My friend posted the recipe & I looked it up to make it for a church breakfast.
